This family has had a rough go to say the least. Poor mama has had complications in both of her pregnancies resulting in both of her children being born premature. Big sister was born at 32 weeks. This little guy was born at 31 weeks gestation and I had the privilege of photographing him at 5 weeks old after he spent a month in the NICU.
As the mother of a preemie myself (she was born at 34 weeks), I am always so amazed at how resilient these babies are. They have to fight an uphill battle to grow and thrive outside the womb, but they do it so flawlessly. They are small but mighty! And don’t get me started on the strength of the parents of preemie babies. Our journey is often so different. Our deliveries are not the picture perfect, baby on our chest for “golden hour.” Our babies are taken from us immediately for evaluation and to be hooked up to various life support systems. We often cannot even hold our baby the first 24 hours after delivery since we ourselves are bedridden and the baby is in the NICU.
Every delivery has it’s own unique challenges and victories, but some have more challenges than others. My heart goes out to the parents of NICU babies, since their road is often fraught with unexpected challenges. Any baby that spends more than a week in NICU will receive a special gift.
We’d love to be a part of this special journey with you, give us a call to book your newborn session now 🙂
