We want you to love your images today, tomorrow, and 20 years from now. Our goal is to provide you with a timeless look that focuses on your family and your love for each other. To achieve this goal, follow the tips below. You can see image examples and get inspired at our Pinterest board “Clothing Inspiration.”
Neutral is Best
Colors are trendy and distract from faces. The more neutral your overall color palette, the better. Neutral colors include ivory, beige, brown, khaki, white, gray, and black.
Monochromatic is Key
Monochromatic means one color. Going for a monochromatic looks does not mean everyone has to be in the exact same color; they can simply be in the same color range (same color but lighter or darker). By keeping everyone in one color range, the overall look of the image feels consistent, intentional, and keeps the focus on the family.
Using Color
If you are going to use color, use it sparsely. If you are going to use two colors, make sure one of the colors is neutral. Stay away from neon colors as these are incredibly unflattering on skin tones. For outdoor images, select a color that compliments your background and the season (Spring: pastel, Summer: bright, Fall: deep and rich, Winter: muted)
Consider Your Skin Tone
There are two basic types of skin tones: Warm and Cool. Warm skin tones are yellower, while cool skin tones are redder or bluer. Warm skin tones look great in gold, peach, coral, pastel yellow, caramel, beige and green. Cool skin tones look great in silver, lilac, pale blue, and red. Both skin tones look good in bright red, pale pink, dark purple, and teal.
